On February 5, 1989, Xiao Lu fired two shots at her installation work Dialogue two hours after the opening of the “Chinese Modern Art Exhibition”, a comprehensive showcase of the development of the New Art Movement since 1985. Xiao Lu’s work was exhibited at a prominent spot to the left of the entrance of the east hall on the first floor of the National Art Museum of China. Her gunshots shocked the museum and the entire art community China and amazed the rest of the world.

The work could be considered the most influential one in the modern art history of China that combined installation and performance and is also one of the signature works in the country’s modern art history.
