Touch Map: Re-making & Re-mixing Materials

Artist Feng Shan will be present to guide participants through his work Map, Site, Atlas, sharing his creative process before leading everyone in creating their own sculptural piece.

This workshop revolves around the theme “An Object of Mine” as a starting point for creation. Participants are specially invited to bring a personal item they cherish. They will create independent works using the items they brought as inspiration. The artist will begin by introducing the properties and common uses of PVC foam board. Then, through a process of abstraction, derivation, and recording, he will guide everyone in drawing or tracing onto the board— “extracting the contours of memory”—and then cutting the shapes out. Finally, using paper clay for further refinement, participants will randomly assemble and piece together the cut fragments, observing the evolving forms of their work from multiple perspectives.
