Paper Comes Alive: Paper-Puppet Workshop

The exhibition “Animated World: Memories and Modern Echoes of Shanghai’s Animation Film Era” proudly features a classic bazaar scene from the beloved film Folktale of Avanti, meticulously recreated by puppet and shadow puppet art expert Jiao Da. Through process videos, original materials, and tools, this installation offers a three-dimensional look into the puppet film studio, showcasing the incredible creativity and exploratory spirit of animators working within limited resources.

In this session, Mr. Jiao Da will personally guide participants on an exclusive tour, offering deep insights into the unique properties and production techniques of different animation genres. He will lead both children and adults behind the scenes of Chinese art films, revealing the creative transformation of intangible cultural heritage within animation art.

Following the tour, families will collaborate in a hands-on paper puppet workshop. Under Mr. Jiao’s guidance, children will use cutting, folding, and coloring techniques to create their own unique animation-themed paper puppet, recreating their favorite characters and scenes while experiencing the dual joys of animation craft and hands-on creation.
